Was sich ab 40 wirklich ändert
Kein Probetraining, in dem du zeigen musst, was du kannst.
Dir fehlt keine Disziplin. Dir fehlt Struktur.
Was kostet Personal Training ab 40 in Basel?

PRIME · 6-minute read
At 25 almost everything worked. Three sessions a week from an internet plan, a bit of discipline with food, and the body delivered. At 40 it doesn't anymore – not because it's broken, but because the rules have changed and nobody explained the new ones to you.
What really changes after 40
Three things that are not opinion but physiology:
- Recovery slows down. The same session that was digested in a day at 25 now takes two. If you keep training six times a week, you train against yourself.
- Muscle becomes a reserve, not decoration. From around 35 the body loses muscle every year without a stimulus. From now on muscle is metabolism, joint protection and fall prevention – and the only insurance you can pay for yourself.
- Sleep, stress and alcohol weigh more. What was a bad night at 25 is a bad week at 45. Recovery is now part of the plan, not what's left over.
What doesn't change: the body responds to dosed stimuli and sufficient recovery. The principle stays, only the dose is new.
Mistake 1: training like you're 22
The most common mistake isn't too little, it's the wrong thing: the same exercises, the same volume, the same intensity as twenty years ago – with a shoulder that now pinches and a hip that doesn't go as far. If you train around these things, you carry the fault into every session.
That is why personal training after 40 always starts with structural balance: mobility, left equals right, every joint able to do its job. That is the white belt in the JFP Belt System – and for most people over 40, the entire gain lies here.
Mistake 2: more discipline instead of more structure
When things don't work, most people turn up the discipline: get up earlier, train harder, eat less. That works for four weeks, then it breaks – because discipline was never the problem. Men and women with responsibility at work have discipline. What's missing is a plan that fits a life with 50-hour weeks.
Two to three sessions a week, 60 minutes each, with progression and a written record, deliver more after 40 than any six-day programme. Not because less is better, but because two sessions that happen for a year are more than six that end after three weeks.
Mistake 3: mistaking aesthetics for strength
At 25 it was about the mirror. After 40 it's about maximal strength – and the mirror follows. Maximal strength is the base ability everything else derives from: resilience in daily life, joint protection, metabolism, posture. Whoever gets stronger in the squat, deadlift, press and pull looks different too. The reverse isn't true.
How personal training after 40 works with us
No trial session where you have to show what you can do. First a free strategy call: goal, starting point, daily life. Then an assessment with measurement and strength tests – numbers instead of guesses. From that comes your plan: twelve weeks, two to three sessions, re-measured every four weeks.
The result after twelve weeks is rarely spectacular and almost always the same: the back holds, energy is stable, the numbers move the right way. And for the first time in years you know why.
You don't lack discipline. You lack structure.
Frequently asked questions
Is 50 too late to start strength training?
No. The body adapts to dosed stimuli at any age. Someone who starts at 50 often gains more in twelve weeks than someone who has trained without a plan for ten years.
I have back or shoulder issues. Is that a problem?
No, and that is exactly why we measure first. Issues are the basis for planning, not a reason for exclusion. If physiotherapy should come first, we say so honestly.
How much time do I need per week?
Two to three sessions of 60 minutes. The rest happens in daily life: sleep, meals, movement – without extra effort.
What does personal training after 40 cost in Basel?
We clarify that in the strategy call, because it depends on the path. The call and the assessment are free.
