Wir klären drei Dinge: Was willst du erreichen?
Was du in den ersten zwölf Wochen erwarten kannst
Was kostet Personal Training in Basel bei JFP Athletics?

Basel · Getting started · 6-minute read
Search for «personal training Basel» and you'll find gyms, price lists and promises. What is almost never there: an honest description of how getting started actually works. This article is exactly that – step by step, from the first enquiry to the first training session at Squat School Basel.
What personal training at JFP Athletics is – and what it isn't
Squat School Basel at Hirschgässlein 44 is not a gym. It is a private training space with coached strength training, two minutes' walk from Bankverein. Membership is limited, and nobody trains here without someone watching their technique.
Personal training with us doesn't mean «someone counts your reps». It means: measurement before plan, technique before load, a written record of every session. You don't get a standard plan – you get one built on your numbers, re-measured against new numbers every four weeks.
Step 1: The free strategy call
The entry point is always a conversation, never a purchase. 30 minutes, by video call or phone, free and without obligation. We clarify three things: What do you want to achieve? Why hasn't it worked so far? And which path makes sense for you – personal coaching, hybrid, Squat School, or no coaching at all right now?
The call is also a chance to say no, in both directions. If you're just looking for a free plan or need motivation from outside, this isn't the right place. We say that openly.
Step 2: The in-person assessment
If it fits, a free assessment at Squat School follows: 30 minutes with measurement and strength tests. Body fat by caliper, grip strength with a hand dynamometer, a hang from the pull-up bar and selected compound lifts – each with variations that match your level.
The result is honest: you learn which level your programme starts at and what takes priority in the first twelve weeks. If the assessment shows that physiotherapy or a medical check should come first, we tell you – and send you there instead of selling to you.
Step 3: The path that fits you
After the assessment there are three paths, all based on the same training system:
- PRIME Coaching 1:1 – twelve weeks, one or two sessions a week in person with Coach JFP, plus nutrition, measurements and recovery. For people with responsibility who have little time and want measurable results.
- Hybrid – you train independently at Squat School with your plan and see your coach regularly for measurement, planning and technique correction.
- Group sessions – Power Rounds, Power Hour and Power Build: small groups, individual weights, shared structure. For everyone who wants to learn strength training without 1:1 coaching.
What we don't offer: a membership anyone can buy. Open-gym places are limited and granted by application only.
What to expect in the first twelve weeks
The first weeks belong to structure: mobility, stability, clean technique in the squat, deadlift, press and pull. That is the white belt in the JFP Belt System – and for most people over 35, this is where the entire gain lies. Then comes maximal strength, then everything else.
Every four weeks we re-measure: same tests, same numbers. You see in black and white what has changed. Progress has four dimensions – reps, weight, tempo, execution – and at least one has to improve from session to session.
Stable first. Then strong. Then capable.
Who is behind the training
José Fabricio Pelaez, Coach JFP: under the barbell since 2007, coaching since 2014, Swiss champion in classic bodybuilding. He trains physiotherapists and coaches at CorpoSana and the JFP Academy – the PRIME system is the same one he teaches therapists. Coach Loredana works with women at Squat School who want to become stronger and more resilient.
Frequently asked questions
What does personal training in Basel cost at JFP Athletics?
We clarify that in the strategy call, because it depends on the path – 1:1, hybrid or group. There are no hidden costs; the call and the assessment are free.
Do I need prior experience?
No. Beginners learn the fundamental lifts properly from day one; experienced lifters get the technique correction nobody offers in an open gym.
Is this for women too?
Yes. PRIME Coaching is open to men and women, and so are the group sessions. Coach Loredana also works specifically with women at Squat School.

Strategy call usually within a week, assessment the week after. Capacity is limited; we currently take on only a few new clients per month.
